Damn Yankees is a musical comedy with music and lyrics by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross and the book by George Abbott and Douglass Wallop. The musical is based on Wallop's novel The Year the Yankees Lost the Pennant and is a modern retelling of the Faust legend (when one sells their soul to the devil in exchange for fame, glory, riches, etc.).
Damn Yankees was an American, well known for the single High Enough, formed in 1985, consisting of , , and drummer Michael Cartellone. Presumably inspired by the musical of the same name, Nugent once also explained that he coined the name because whenever someone asked him how he and Tommy Shaw would sound playing together, he would always reply by saying they would sound like 'a bunch of damn Yankees.'
